For all of us, safety is an absolutely non-negotiable facet of providing an online world for children. So we've made sure our systems are set up to make MiniMonos a completely safe place for your children to play.
We start with real-time, automated filtering systems. When children sign up with a free monkey, they are limited to a pre-selected list of words to use in public chat. Open chat, which is available to Gold members and in friend-to-friend private messaging, is heavily filtered for any inappropriate language.
Our commitment to safety doesn't stop there, however. Actual human beings on our team monitor all behavior on MiniMonos—every message, every chat log, every exchange—to make sure it is always a safe place to play.
If we ever see any inappropriate behavior, we have a variety of response levels depending on the severity and intentionality of the behavior. Of course, for any behavior where we think there's an immediate danger, or any egregious behaviour (like offensive language), we ban the player in question immediately. However, oftentimes kids are unaware that their behavior is inappropriate, and we want to give the good kids a chance to get it right!
For example, kids naturally want to know more about each other, and often will ask where the other person lives in such a way or in such a context that we can see there's no safety issue. We have a blanket rule about asking for personal information, but we don't want to overreact to innocence, so in that case we'd send what we call a 'guiding' message to both child (in-world) and parent (via the registration email). It's basically a friendly note alerting both to the situation and asking them not to do it again.
The next step is a warn, and if they ignore the warn they can get banned. The same holds true for 'dating' talk, which we don't allow.
If we ever have any safety concerns, we send an email to the address we have on record for the parent, so that you can be kept aware of the situation at all times.
Fortunately, our experience is that the vast majority of players and behavior on MiniMonos is outstanding, and bad behavior is the exception, not the rule. Our monkey members show us every day that they are kind, generous, thoughtful, creative and clever, and we feel privileged to spend time with them!
